How To Replace Laptop Keyboard

WARNING: TURN OFF YOUR NOTEBOOK AND UNPLUG POWER CORD AND MODEM CABLE BEFORE OPENING CASE

CAUTION: Prevent ESD damage by following ESD guidelines every time you open the notebook case.

This article will teach you how to replace laptop keyboard. Following these steps, you will learn how to replace laptop keyboard. Read over the steps BEFORE you start.

1. MAKE SURE NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP IS UNPLUGGED. Turn the laptop over, so that the bottom is facing up.

2. Remove the battery. (Main battery, and optionally secondary)

3. Remove the two screws that secure the keyboard to the laptop. (Your laptop should still be facing down)

4. Turn the laptop over again, so that you see the keys of the laptop keyboard.

5. Open up the LCD panel so it lays flat on your work surface.

6. Find the two small tabs near/beside the spacebar.

7. Insert your flat screwdriver (small) into the two tabs, and pry up. *Be careful that you are prying up on the keyboard, and not on a key.

8. Remove the keyboard like you open the laptop. (So from the end that's facing you, slowly bring it up, until you don't see the keys anymore, but the other side of the keyboard.)

9. Place a soft cloth over the LCD panel, and place the keyboard , KEYS DOWN on top of the LCD panel. *The LCD panel is made of coated glass, so it is recommended that a cloth be placed on the LCD panel before placing keyboard on top.

10. To disconnect the keyboard, pull up on the plastic keyboard connector, with two fingers. Gently pull the keyboard cable out (of the connector). Be careful not to touch other components. Then put the old laptop/notebook keyboard away.

11. Assuming you have a cloth over the LCD panel, place the new keyboard, keys down, with the spacebar near the top of the LCD panel.

12. Find the keyboard connector near the top of the system. Gently pull up on the connector to verify that it is in a raised position.

13. Slide the end of the keyboard connector onto the keyboard cable. It should slide easily in. Make sure it is not twisted.

14. Press down on the keyboard connector with two fingers. This locks the keyboard cable into the keyboard connector.

15. Rotate the keyboard towards you until it is almost face up.

16. Insert the back of the keyboard onto the keyboard bezel. Lay it down until it is flat all across. It should slide easily into place. Make sure the cable is not twisted. Press down on it around the outside on several places until you here a click and it goes in place. CAUTION: IF THE KEYBAORD IS NOT CORRECTLY PLACED, YOUR NOTEBOOK/LAPTOP CAN GET DAMAGED WHEN TRYING TO CLOSE!

17. Close the LCD panel.

18. Turn the notebook/laptop over, so that the bottom is facing up.

19. Replace the two screws that you removed in the beginning.

20. Replace the battery(s) that you removed in the beginning (the main and/or secondary battery).

21. Turn the notebook/laptop back over so that it is facing right side up. (So you can see the keys.)
